Overview
Umm Senman at Jubbah is the main rock-art site in the Hail region, and part of a UNESCO World Heritage inscription made in 2015.
Why visit Umm Senman Mountain (Jubbah)
The carvings are cut into sandstone that once stood on the shore of a lake. They show human figures, cattle, ibex and hunting scenes, and the animals in them belong to a wetter Arabia than the one around the rock today - which is what gives the site its value: it is a dated record of the climate changing.
Jubbah is about 90 km north-west of Hail city, out in the Nafud sand sea, so it is a half-day at minimum from Hail.

Rising from the sands of the Nafud Desert, Jabal Umm Sinman stands just 100 km northwest of Ha’il, near the ancient town of Jubbah. At 1,264 meters above sea level, it is framed by sweeping dunes and sandstone hills such as Ghawtah, Qitar, and Al-Ghara, creating a dramatic desert landscape that once surrounded an ancient lake.
