A half day inside the Al-Ahsa Oasis, which covers more than 85 square kilometres and holds more than 2.5 million palm trees. Guinness World Records recognises it as the largest palm oasis in the world, and UNESCO added it to the World Heritage List in 2018 as an evolving cultural landscape of gardens, canals, springs and wells.
The day is spent inside that system rather than looking at it from the main road: date farms, the water channels that run between the plots, and stops wherever something is worth getting out for. This is farmland still being worked, not a preserved site, so what you see depends on the time of year. If you want the rock as well, Al Qarah Mountain stands on the edge of the same oasis in Al Ahsa and can be added.
