Two landmarks and a short walk, in half a day. Tabuk Castle was built on the old road that connected Damascus to Madinah, and its towers were used for watching and guarding that route. Neither the castle nor the railway station needs a ticket, so the time goes on looking rather than on queuing.
The Hejaz Railway was built at the start of the twentieth century to link Damascus and Madinah. Work began in 1900 and took eight years, and the Tabuk station is one of the stops still standing. The same base serves Wadi Disah if you are giving another day to the region.
Day by day
Morning
You are collected from your hotel and driven the short distance to the castle, which is walked through room by room, courtyard first and towers after. Your guide sets out what the building was for and why it stood where it does, on the old road that connected Damascus to Madinah.
Late morning
The second stop is the railway station, where the platform buildings survive from the line's working years. From there the route continues on foot through the older streets nearby, at an easy pace and with a stop for coffee. You are returned to your hotel around midday.
