A half day around Madinah, in the western region of Saudi Arabia and central to Islamic history as the city that welcomed the Prophet Muhammad. The city is open to visitors of any faith, while certain sacred areas are restricted to Muslims. The route is planned around that: historic neighbourhoods, viewpoints over the centre and outer sites, with your guide explaining what sits where.
Muslim guests who want to pray at Al Rawdah Al Sharifah need a permit booked in advance through Nusuk, which you arrange yourself before the day. Madinah also opens up the wider province: AlUla lies within the same province, and the Hejaz Railway that once ran down to Madinah still has its station standing in Tabuk.
Day by day
Morning
You are collected from your hotel and the drive begins with the historic quarters, stopping to walk the sections that reward a slow pace. Your guide sets out the shape of the city and how it grew, and keeps the route to ground that is open to all visitors.
Late morning
The second half moves out to the viewpoints, where the whole centre reads clearly from above and the photographs are worth the stop. There is time to sit before the return. You are dropped back at your hotel, or at another point in the city if that suits your afternoon better.
