This is the single-day version of AlUla for people who only have one. It starts at Hegra, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008 and holding more than 110 preserved tombs cut into the rock. Hegra is seen on a guided tour led by an AlUla Rawi, with vehicle transfer between the tomb groups, and places are limited each day, so the booking is made in advance and the rest of the day is built around that fixed slot.
After Hegra the day moves to Elephant Rock, which rises 52 metres out of the sand and takes on a deep red colour as the sun drops, and finishes in AlUla Old Town, a 12th-century settlement whose shops run to 11pm. It is a long day with a lot of driving between stops, but everything is in one vehicle with one driver.
Day by day
Morning
Early pick-up from your hotel and straight to Hegra for the booked slot. The guided route runs between the tomb groups by vehicle, with time out at each to walk up to the carved facades, and the Hegra Visitor Centre is included, where the reconstruction of Hinat is displayed.
Afternoon
A lunch break, then the drive to Elephant Rock with time on the sand around the base while the light turns. The day ends in AlUla Old Town, walking the alleys between the clay houses, before drop-off at your hotel.
