This is a walking half day through the palms of AlUla rather than a drive between monuments. The paths run level between palm groves and small farm plots, mostly in shade, and the pace is slow enough to talk to people working the land and to stop whenever you feel like it. There is no climbing and no rough ground.
The oasis sits directly against AlUla Old Town, the 12th-century settlement that stood on the ancient incense trading routes, so the walk explains the town better than the town does on its own. The same valley held Dadan, capital of the Dadan and Lihyan kingdoms, long before that.
