The whole point of this evening is distance from lit streets. You are collected from your hotel in AlUla and driven out to open ground in the valley, where you sit, let your eyes adjust and stay long enough for that to matter. There is no walking to speak of and nothing to climb.
The drive out is timed so you leave with light left in the sky, which means a stop at Elephant Rock on the way while the sandstone still has colour on it. The route runs through the Ashar Valley country around Maraya, so you see the valley twice, once lit and once not.
Day by day
Evening
Late pick-up from your hotel and the drive out of town, with a stop at Elephant Rock while the last of the light is on it. From there the vehicle continues into the valley, away from the built-up area, to the spot for the night.
Night
Seating is set out and there is a long, unhurried stretch with the sky overhead, which is what the trip is for. Warm layers are worth bringing because the desert cools quickly once the sun is gone. The drive back and drop-off follow.
