Historic Jeddah was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014. It sits on the eastern shore of the Red Sea and has been a port since the 7th century AD, when it was established on the Indian Ocean trade routes.
The walk covers the old alleys and the markets that still run through them, at the pace of a guided stroll rather than a timetable. This is the part of Jeddah that shows the city as it was before the corniche and the newer districts.
